I built my dream studio. Then I burnt out inside it.
Dance was my constant growing up. My life changed a lot as a kid — new house, new school, sometimes every year — but dance was the one thing that never moved. It gave me confidence, identity, a sense of belonging, no matter what else was shifting around me.
Looking back, I think that's exactly why I later tied my worth to it so completely. As I got older, dance stopped being the constant and became the scoreboard — numbers, achievements, the next milestone to tick off. I chased it until I was exhausted, burnt out, and had unknowingly built myself a second job.
I hadn't built freedom. I'd built myself another job.
At 19, I opened my first class in a community hall with five students. No business degree. No roadmap. Just passion and a genuine belief that kids deserved a place where they felt like they mattered.
Eighteen years later, that one class had grown to over 20 locations. But somewhere along the way, I stopped running the business and started being run by it. Competitions, enrolment numbers, exam results - my self-worth was tied to every single one. I was exhausted. Burnt out. And I had accidentally built myself a very demanding second job.
What changed everything was not a new marketing strategy or a better Instagram grid.
It was getting radically clear on who I was, what I actually wanted, and what kind of life I was trying to build - then reverse-engineering the business around that.
That is what Studio Freedom Formula is. It is the thing I wish I had eighteen years ago.
